OBAMA FEVER

With this being the end of the week when our president, Barack Obama (woohoo!), has taken office, I figured I would post a piece that i did last year for an art show.

The Art Apart Show, was an exhibition I did with a few other NY artists. I did two pieces. One of which was a portrait of Obama. The other I will post later.

I enjoyed working on this one. Hadn’t worked in watercolor in a while. Lost a lot of sleep over it too. It was worth it in the end though, because it sold.

LET THE RIGHT ONE IN

I checked this movie out on a suggestion from my buddy Eimi (check out her work at eimisstudio.com).

“Let the Right One In” is a Swedish film adapted from a book of the same name. It follows Oskar, a picked on, social outcast who makes a friend in a child vampire. Although the movie has the vampire horror theme, its not a scary movie at all. Its does a good job of creeping you out, none the less.

Between having more than its share of creepy looking kids, the movie has an almost absent score, that makes every scene feel haunted, which is only helped by how moody the film is shot.

One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while. Check it out!

THE WORTHY: A GHOST’S STORY

This is the second book I have read by Will Clarke. “The Worthy”, is a fast paced book that grabs you pretty quickly. It follows a well-to-do LSU student, who happens to be dead. He’s killed by his fraternity brother during a cruel hazing ritual. Witty commentary on frat life, but if you delve deeper, it makes some arguments about justice and forgiveness. A good, easy read. Definitely check out his first book Lord Vishnu’s Love Handles: A Spy Novel (Sort Of). Its on my favorites list.

PART ART SHOW / April 2008

I had the pleasure of being apart of a collective art show in NYC in April of last year, where all the pieces where done on vinyl records. My pieces were inspired by the 7 deadly sins in the form of playing cards.

Check out the other artists and their work at www.partartshow.com, particularly Matt Gross, who I sat for a portrait he did. He did my big head some justice.

BOXHEADS

Check out this cool site I found out about yesterday.

www.cubeecraft.com

They have downloadable templates of all your favorite characters. Just cut ’em out and put ’em together. Good way of blowing some time (if you have any to spare).

Here’s a pic of some that my co-workers put together. They did Wesley from Princess Bride and Vault Boy from the FallOut games.
